I’ve been using Textmate for well over a year and it took me a significant portion of that time to work out (because I couldn’t find any documentation) that you can actually edit a filename using the keyboard. Just select it and hit <space> This might be construed as counter-intuitive as in OS X you hit <enter> to change a file name and <space> to quicklook it.
