I’ve been keen to breathe some life into my blog for a while. As with all things, there just never seemed an opportunity until that is, I was introduced to the rapid web application development framework, Django. So, to coincide with my taking on a full time position at Lift Interactive here in deep freeze Edmonton, I’ve rebuilt everything using what is certainly one of the finest frameworks out there.
For now I’ve removed all my old posts although I’ll be taking the most popular one or two and adding them again. I wanted to take an iterative and thus, initially, a somewhat minimalist approach to building the blog. I’d like to write about the frequent discoveries and gotchas that I run across as I build my Django knowledge. Lift has a wealth of talent from which I can draw and I welcome the opportunity to learn quickly and avoid getting bogged down Googling for obscure error message.
I also wanted to use the blog as an opportunity to try out new ideas and techniques. CSS3 is an area I’m interested in exploring and so I’ve used some CSS rounded corners and @font-face rules. I’m no longer going to waste my time with Internet Explorer. If you’re using that browser you shouldn’t be.
I’ve a number of fixes to make to the current iteration. The twitter status seems broken although it’s fine in my local dev. I also can’t write any posts because of some problem with textile. I’ll document the solutions to these problems here to help anyone else struggling too.
